Bloomsburg Fall to Caldwell in Women's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG-- Junior Colleen Kegerreis (Schuylkill Haven/ Schuylkill Haven) scored a game high 22 points, but the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team fell to Caldwell College 76-61 at the Patriot-Inn Huskies Classic.

Early in the first half, both teams traded the lead back and forth, as Bloomsburg eventually took a 17-16 lead at the 10:41 mark after Kegerreis knocked down two free throws. Caldwell then went on a 9-2 run that gave them a 28-19 lead at the 5:03 mark after Kristy Leedham nailed a three pointer. The Cougars would go on to extend their lead to 35-23 after another Leedham three pointer with 45 seconds left in the half. Bloomsburg's Brea Lewis (Philadelphia/Frankford) made the halftime score 35-25 after knocking down a jumper in the half's final second.

In the second half, Bloomsburg started off fast with a Kegerreis layup to cut the Caldwell lead to eight. But, the Cougars would go on another scoring tear, which ended at the 16:54 mark after a Stephaine Cadet three-pointer that made the score 43-29. The closest Bloomsburg would get the rest of the half was 13:33 mark when Steph Rankin (Bloomsburg/Bloomsburg) hit a jumper to cut the Caldwell lead to 47-36. But, Caldwell went on to control the rest of the half, eventually opening up an insurmountable 61-43 lead at the seven minute mark.

Shameika Christian (Pittsburgh/Mercyhurst Northeast) scored 10 points, recorded nine assists and pulled down five rebounds, while Lauren Healey (Glenmoore/Owen J. Roberts) had eight points and five rebounds.

In the first game of the Patriot-Inn Huskies Classic, the University of the Sciences pulled out a come-from-behind 73-70 victory over East Stroudsburg. Leading the way for USP was Erin Chesnavich, who scored 19 points and pulled down seven rebounds. For East Stroudsburg, Kristen Murray was the team's leading scorer with 19 points and four steals.

The Huskies return to action tomorrow when they host USP at 3:00 in game two of the Patriot-Inn Huskies Classic. In the day's first game, East Stroudsburg will play Caldwell beginning at 1:00 p.m.
